Landed my first job at Microsoft when I was 19. I would describe myself as an enthusiastic and diligent Creative Technologist. I like building things, working in a team, watching projects thrive, grow and prosper. Building things is great.
This is a semi-comprehensive yet shortlist of things that I do professionally; aside from research and academia.
Creating user stories, apps and web experience have made UI/UX one of my favourite fields of work. It has utilised my psychology education and all the hours spent on high-end software. Designing intuitive and aesthetically pleasing systems is both art and engineering.
My Python relationship started with network security. It was quite common to write scripts to test systems or batch them. Lately, however, I’ve used it to utilise libraries like Tensorflow and to conduct testing using Selenium. One of my favourite languages overall and I always look forward to learning more Python.
Frontend is such a broad term nowadays but I think the basics standstill; HTML, CSS, and javascript are not going anywhere for the foreseeable future. I’ve worked with all three extensively and became quite comfortable with them. I’ve also used javascript libraries like three.js ( as you can see on the website), tensorflow.js and Aframe. I also used libraries like react, bootstrap, and runtime environments like node.js and flask.
Networks Security was my first stop in computers, as a teenager I was quite passionate about networks how to design, scale and protect them. I found myself quickly absorbing the fundamentals and soon enough I was a certified server engineer. Microsoft Egypt then recruited me, where I worked for them for a year and signed an unbelievable amount of NDAs.
I’ve used the entire Adobe suite for more than 10 years now. My earliest memory is Adobe buying Flash from Macromedia. My favourite Adobe software are Photoshop, AfterEffects, XD and illustrator; Flash used to be the third on that list (RIP).
I needed to get into some DevOps to help with the testing and deployment of my code. I soon discovered that my server engineering skills came in handy and started embracing my DevOps adeptness. Today I have mid-level VPS that I run multiple dockers on and do the CI/CD for my applications.
Agile is not just a project management type process. It’s much more. It’s been two years since I started using a self-hosted Kanban tool to arrange and track my personal daily tasks. It has been super productive.
I’ve worked in the film industry for many years. I started as a VFX artist, colourist then technical director. One highlight of my career was working on the film ‘Rags and tatters’ which was nominated for TIFF. Take a look at my reel; as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.
Oh, what a time to be alive. It has been great to see VR emerge. I’ve built few web experiences in VR. I’ve also done research (with the human-centered computing lab.) in the field of VR and immersivity, where I got to conduct tests on audio-visual cues, cognition, and attention in VR.
I’ve used augmented reality tools only recently while working on a furniture related project. I’ve gotten quite familiar with tools like Adobe Aero, Spark AR, and Vectary. Very recently I started reading on Apple’s AR kit and Reality composer.
Let's grab a coffee and talk about your project. Drop me a line and I'll send you my schedule on Grover.
